Amigurumi (Japanese for "stuffed toy") is a popular trend in crafting, and several amigurumi collections have hit the shelves in the last year. Snow, the crafter behind the popular web site Roxycraft, enters the fray with this short but sweet book of crocheted animal patterns. The 20 toys in the collection range from the expected (pig, lamb, and mouse) to the quirky (beaver, lemur, and hedgehog)and they are all cheery, colorful, and cute. A beginners' tutorial provides full-color photographic illustrations of basic crochet stitches, and the directions are clear enough for first-time crocheters to understand. Amigurumi has instant appeal for teens and young adults, but parents and grandparents might also enjoy making these cute critters for the kids in their lives.
