This clever take on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, takes readers to the Amish community of Paradise Township, PA. Pete Treger is a farmer who has just moved to town. There he meets sisters Cate and Betsy Miller. While Cate is fiery and attractive, nobody seems to have any interest in courting her, whereas sweet Betsy has more than her fair share of suitors. But the girls' father has decreed that Cate, who is older, must marry first. VERDICT Gould cowrites the "Women of Lancaster County" series with Mindy Starns Clark. Though she's not as well known as Clark, Gould is a fabulous writer in her own right. This charming series debut should appeal to fans of Beverly Lewis and Marta Perry.
